Baltimore, MD is more likely to conjur up images of cop shows and crusteceans than it
would a budding techno scene. Craig Sopo and lovehate, both Midwest transplants
raised on a healthy dose of Detroit Techno and Chicago Acid House, are proud to
bring Baltimore back to the grown folks table of electronic music with their first
release on More or Less.
“Shell Tone” features a funky staccato synth line punctuated with choppy vocal snippets
that haunt you like the voices you heard tripping in the woods. While “Shell Tone”
is definitely suited for 3AM face melting, Josh Dahlberg’s (Blank Artists)
remix has a more subdued bassline perfect for interstate driving and mid-day raving.
“Prospect Street” is a nod to traditional Detroit techno, with it’s juxtaposition of minimal
elements building layer upon layer until the synth pads envelope you like wet cement.
Brian Kage’s (Beretta/Beretta Grey) remix tempers the track into a deep
tech-house creeper that proves techno is music for the body not just the head.
